Adult Programs

Adult visitors will find a variety of enjoyable, entertaining, and informative programs that offer the opportunity to delve deeper into the Museums' collections and history. Whether a "Behind the Scenes" Tour at Fonthill Castle, an early American craft demonstration at the Mercer Museum, or a guest speaker in the research Library, our museums provide programs for diverse audiences. Classes, Workshops and Seminars

Throughout the year, the Mercer Museum offers a diverse slate of continuing education and learning opportunites for adults and seniors. Among these are classes exploring traditional arts and crafts, in-depth study seminars focused on museum collections (often held at our off-site Collections Storage and Study Center), family history and genealogy workshops, and lecture series featuring various subjects in local, regional and national history and culture. Many such programs are connected to our current exhibits. Halloween-Time Programs

What lurks in the shadowy halls and alcoves of the Mercer Musem? Discover the history and folklore of some of the Museum's more chilling and ghoulish objects in our Mercer by Moonlight evening tours, offered on selected dates in October. Featured objects and topics include those related to vampirism, werewolves, witches, graveyards, funeral customs, and incidents of crime and punishment. Tours are family friendly for ages 8 and up! Light refreshments follow every tour. Tour rates are $15 adults ($12 BCHS members), and $8 for youth under 12 ($6 BCHS members). Please consult our Calendar of Events for dates and information.

Also in honor of November Night Tales, Henry Mercer's published collection of Gothic stories, Fonthill Caslte offers a special evening tour and program celebrating Mercer's love of detective and gothic literature - including the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Program concludes with a special dramatic performance of Poe's The Tell Tale Heart. Pricing is $20 ($15 BCHS members). Consult the Calendar of Events for dates and information.
