Fonthill Castle's Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration

Spend your Fourth of July at Fonthill Castle…A Community Tradition

Saturday, July 4, 2015
Noon-4 pm

Enjoy a day of family fun, food, games, crafts, entertainment and live music, with the visual splendor of Henry Mercer’s estate as the backdrop. Join in the watermelon eating contests, sack races, tug-o-war, bucket brigade relays, town ball (19th century baseball) and the popular cakewalk. You can also sit back and enjoy some stirring good old-fashioned patriotic music or participate in a craft activity. There will be a selection of vendors offering a variety of summer time snacks and treats, or you may bring your own picnic and spread a blanket on Fonthill’s grounds. Fonthill Castle will also be open for self-guided tours.

The event kicks off with the Children's Decorated Bike Parade at 12:30 p.m., with judging taking place from 11 a.m.-noon. The contest categories are: Most Patriotic, Most Original, and Most Dynamic. The age groups  for the various categories are 2-4 yrs., 5-8 yrs., and 9-12 yrs. Henry Mercer himself will present the prizes for each category/age group at the conclusion of the Bike Parade.
