Camps at the Mercer Museum 2008 Schedule

Hands-On History in the Garden Workshop
Wednesday--Friday, June 25-27, 9-11 a.m.

Horticulture and history join forces in a three-day mini-camp centered on our Log House Garden. Children get "down and dirty" to engage in hands-on activities focused on health and healing, cooking, herb lore, historic gardening tools, and more. Children create a fun craft project each day. Ages 7-10. Fee: $60 non-members ($50 BCHS members).

Myths and Legends of the World: North America
Tuesday-Thursday, July 15-17, 9-11 a.m.

Let your child's imagination run wild as he or she explores the continent's tall tales and folklore in this three-day mini-camp. Program includes storytelling, music, and craft projects involving mythological creatures. Ages 9-12. Fee: $60 non-members ($50 BCHS members).
Myths and Legends of the World: British Isles
Tuesday-Thursday, August 5-7, 9-11 a.m.

Your child takes a journey through myths and legends of the British Isles, exploring a fantastic world of dragons, knights, fairies, and more. This three-day mini-camp features storytelling, illustration, and craft activities. Ages 9-12. Fee: $60 non-members ($50 BCHS members).

LEGO™ Robotics Camp – Basics
Monday-Friday, June 23-27, 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-3:30 p.m.-SOLD OUT
Or July 7-11 or July 21-25, 8:30-11:30 a.m. -SOLD OUT
Or August 4-8, 12:30-3:30 p.m. -SOLD OUT

Students who have finished grades 2 through 5 build with Legos™ and learn to power their creations with robotics. The Basics Lego™ session introduces campers to the syntax-based computer programming used to control their unique Lego™ building projects. All Lego™ materials are provided on site. Fee is $145 for non-members ($125 for BCHS members).

LEGO Robotics Camp – Intermediate-SOLD OUT
Monday-Friday, July 7-11 or July 21-25, 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Students who have finished grades 2 through 5, and Basics LEGO Robotics will enjoy this next level of Lego discovery and manipulation, powered by computer technology. Instruction focuses on materials relating to the world of industry, and introduces LEGO Mindstorms-RCX computer technology. All LEGO materials are provided on site. Fee: $145 for non-members ($125 for BCHS members).
LEGO Robotics Camp – Advanced I-SOLD OUT
Monday-Friday, August 4-8, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Students who have finished grades 4 through 7, and Intermediate LEGO Robotics can appreciate this next level of Lego exploration. Using Lego education materials, students develop computer programs to be downloaded to Mindstorms-RCX controlled LEGO devices. These machines respond to the computerized commands of the developer. All Lego materials and computer technology are provided on site. Fee is $145 for non-members ($125 for BCHS members).
LEGO Robotics Camp – Advanced II-Sold Out
Monday-Friday, August 18-22, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Students who have finished grades 5 through 8, and Intermediate LEGO Robotics can take their LEGO adventure to the next level. In addition to more sophisticated exploration of RCX-controlled LEGO devices, students will be exposed to LEGO NXT software. LEGO materials and computer technology are provided on site. Fee is $145 for non-members ($125 for BCHS members).

Camps at Fonthill Museum 2008 Schedule
Tower and Tile Architecture Workshop
Monday-Friday, July 28-August 1, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Kids embark on an exploration of Henry Mercer’s unique buildings during this five-day workshop.  Activities feature architectural “basics” like materials and structures, plus concrete construction and Mercer’s incredible architectural tiles. For children who have completed grades 4-6. The fee is $135 for the five-day workshop ($115 for BCHS members).

Moravian Tile Workshop

Designed for teens ages 12-15, these workshops features ceramics instruction, tile making, and tours of Fonthill and the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works. Fee per workshop: $85 ($70 BCHS/MPTW members).

Impressive Impressed Tiles, Fridays, July 11,18, 25, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Teens learn the earliest techniques used by Henry Mercer to produce his famed Moravian tiles, then create, glaze and fire their own impressed tiles based on a Mercer design.

Please note: The Make a Magnificent Mosaic workshop has been cancelled.
