In celebration of the Mercer Museum’s Centennial,  explore four great museums in Doylestown free of charge, including the Mercer Museum, Fonthill Castle, the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works and the James A. Michener Art Museum.

Free parking will be available at Fonthill Park and free shuttle service, courtesy of Bucks County Transport will be provided between Fonthill Park and the Doylestown Cultural District.

  • At the Mercer Museum, enjoy the following activities
    10 am -5 pm (Martin & Warwick Foundation Galleries):  Exhibit: Long May She Wave: A Graphic History of the American Flag
    11 am – 3 pm (Elkins Gallery):  Enjoy cake in honor of the Mercer Museum’s 100th anniversary
    11 am -3 pm (Central Court):  Mercer Expedition Cart: Folk Toys & Games
    1 pm -4 pm (Learning Center):     Make an American Flag windsock

 

  • At Fonthill Castle
    Tours  run from 10 am – 5 pm (Last tour at 4 pm)  Enjoy ground floor tours of the castle to see the Saloon, Morning Room, and Library.

 

  • At the James A. Michener Art Museum,
    10 am-5 pm:  See the debut a new exhibit, Unguarded, Untold, Iconic: Afghanistan through the Lens of Steve McCurry, a visually arresting collection of photographs by Steve McCurry, the famed photographer whose iconic image Afghan Girl captivated the world in 1985. Offering thought-provoking perspectives on Afghan culture, food, religion, and history, the exhibition will include that photograph as well as dozens of others captured by McCurry.
    10 am -4 pm:  The Michener’s Terrace café with indoor and outdoor seating will be open for food and drink purchases.

 

  • At the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works
    10 am-5 pm:  Self-guided tours of the Tile Works to see ceramicists still making tiles in a manner similar to that employed by Henry Mercer.

Among the oldest artifacts in the Mercer Museum are a 2,000 year old whale oil lamp and Native American implements dating to 6,000-8,000 BC.
