We stepped back into the archives today to find a recipe from a personal recipe book put together by Kathryn Michener Hart.
Ingredients:

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg (beaten)
1 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375° F. Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set bowl aside.
- In large mixing bowl, cream shortening and peanut butter. Mix in sugar.
- Add egg and vanilla.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients to the peanut butter mixture until well-incorporated.
- Roll the dough into balls (about 1” wide) and place on prepared sheet. Using the tongs of a fork, press down on the tops of the dough to flatten and form lines in the cookies.
- Bake in oven 12 to 15 minutes.
- Remove and transfer cookies to a cooling rack to cool.
