Volunteers play an essential role at the Mercer Museum and Library & Fonthill Castle, operated by the Bucks County Historical Society. Without volunteers we would not be able to maintain the quality and scope of programs and operations that allow us to serve an evergrowing and diverse audience. Volunteers enjoy the benefits of on-site educational opportunities, shop discounts, free admission to all sites, special discounts on all program offerings, recognition and new friendships. Training and support are provided. Hours and days are flexible. Mercer Museum & Library
Public Relations & Membership: Our organization participates in many local conferences, community events and business fairs. We are always in need of volunteers to help promote our programs and memberships at these events. Our Membership Team is always in need of volunteers to assist with our calendar of events, newsletter, and other mailings.
Special Events: Throughout the year we hold many special events and programs at the Mercer Museum. Volunteers for our special events would have various duties such as, soliciting door prizes and gifts, recruiting local business participation in these projects, event preparation and clean up, and assisting guests.
Public Programs: We have wide range of programming at the museum that caters to diverse audiences. We are always in need of volunteers for family programs, adult programs, exhibit openings, Boy Scout and Girl Scout events, holiday programming, and much more!
Speaker’s Bureau: The Museum presents programs to community groups on a variety of subjects. Volunteers are needed to facilitate and present this type of commuity outreach.
Mercer Apprentice Program (MAP): High students (ages 15 – 18) get the opportunity to work in a museum environment while developing leadership, communication, and research skills useful for life beyond graduation. For more information and a MAP application (PDF) go to our Student Opportunities page.
Education Programs: There is always need for volunteers to assist with school and camp programs. We have school and camp programming taking place throughout the year. If one is interested in working with children, making crafts, and teaching history then this is the volunteer opportunity for you!
Maintenance and Landscaping: Assistance is needed for general maintenance and to help care for plantings around the Mercer’s new wing.
Special Projects: Assistance is always needed for program preparation and conducting research.
Maintenance: Fonthill Castle can use individuals to lovingly care for and help maintain this unique structure.
Old-Fashioned Fourth of July: This annual Fonthill Caslte celebration needs volunteers for a variety of tasks, such as, parking, games, crafts, admissions, and more.
Education Programs: Volunteers can be huge help in allowing Fonthill’s innovative and popular programs to continue. School and camp programming take place throughout the entire year. Help out with camps, education and family programs, birthday parties and more!
Summer Internship requirements include:
- Current enrollment in a college program
- Two professional/academic references
- A love of history!
