The Doan Gang Programs

ROYAL REFUGEES: THE DOAN GANG OF BUCKS COUNTY

The Mercer Museum is embarking on an exciting major exhibition that explores the history and intrigue of a group of Revolutionary War era Loyalists, whose legend lives on today. The Doan Gang: Outlaws of the Revolution, opens on May 3, 2024, on the cusp of the 250th anniversary of the United States.

This surprising tale of the American Revolution focuses on exploring the multi-faceted story of the Doan Gang, and highlights their deep passions and commitment to the King of England, their criminal activities, and the resulting conflicts that arose among neighbors, friends, and family as they were forced to choose sides in a conflict many didn’t want. The Doan Gang plotted, schemed, and plundered their way through a divided world in the earliest days of a budding American nation.

The Doan Gang program series focuses on separating historical fact from fiction and dispelling the many myths surrounding this notorious group. The research for this Bucks County Historical Society (BCHS) series is founded on archival records, including court documents, eyewitness accounts, newspaper appearances, maps, and depositions, many of which come from BCHS archives. This research was also supplemented by records from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the Library and Archives of Canada, and the Newtown Historic Association.

These in-person Mercer Museum programs are designed to be enjoyed as a complete series, as they tell the story of the Doan Gang chronologically.

Tickets can be purchased for one, or multiple presentations, and each are sold separately.
