Collections Research

The Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle offers collection access visits to those who are interested in inspecting, measuring, or photographing objects from the museum collection. These visits are great for:

  • Researchers and students who need a closer look for a paper, book, or other project
  • Reenactors who want to examine equipment for period-accurate uniforms
  • Owners of historic homes hoping to reference era-appropriate hardware
  • Tradespeople interested in studying the history or tools of their craft

Visits should be scheduled at least one week prior to your visit and same-day requests cannot be accommodated.

Collections access appointments generally last 30 to 90 minutes. Longer appointments are determined on a case by case basis.

When reaching out, please provide the object number and title for the item you’re interested in viewing. Visitors can access our free online catalog for the museum object collection here. Inquiries can be directed to Annie Halliday, Director of Library & Collections, at ahalliday@mercermuseum.org.

The standard museum admission fee applies to these requests.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time online or in person at the museum. Members of the Bucks County Historical Society are free.

For researchers unable to make an on-site appointment, the Curatorial department will conduct limited research in our catalog files and provide photocopies of relevant records. Please refer to our Document Retrieval Service for associated fees and details.
