Dr. Alison Kreitzer, adjunct faculty member at the University of Delaware, discusses the expansion of automobile racing in Pennsylvania during the first half of the twentieth century, including the local fair circuit and Langhorne Speedway, one of the nation’s first tracks built purposely for motor racing.  The program is included with museum admission.

Stories by the Castle with Darcy Fair

Visit the castle grounds for a rollicking children’s story hour featuring oral tales, readings, music, participatory activities, and a touchable object from the museum’s education collections. Bring a blanket, folding chair, some lunch, a cold drink and your enthusiasm.  Programs are presented by Darcy Fair of Buckslore, and are suitable for children of all ages and their caregivers.  Free, drop-in program.  Program will be moved inside in case of inclement weather.

Tower Tour for Families

In this one-hour tour, children and parents explore Henry Mercer’s castle from basement to tower and learn about Mercer’s creative ideas through stories and prints.  This special tour travels through some areas of the castle not seen on the regular tour, including the Kitchen, Morning Room and Wind Room and takes guests up to the top terrace.  Children must be 6 or older and able to climb the steep stairs.  Space is limited. Reservations required, call 215-348-9461.

Experience some of the ways kids in our area race and compete.  Participants include Pinewood Derby racers from the Washington Crossing Council, Boy Scouts of America; the Oaklane Quarter Midget Club, Trumbauersville; and the Bucks County Soapbox Derby.  Visit with the racers, and join in activities scheduled throughout the day.  Included with museum admission.
