Scout Programs

All scouting groups, including Cub Scouts, Scouting America, and Girl Scouts, can visit the Mercer Museum for a variety of fun and interactive programs, which you can learn more about here.

See below for our new Cub Scout Adventure programs, and download our Cub Scout Programs flyer here.

Lion (Kindergarten)

“Gizmos and Gadgets”: Through this program, the Cub Scouts will explore properties of motion and force and will use household materials to create a useful object. Scouts will get to explore our historic Log House and see how farmers used butter churns to make butter. They will then learn how to make butter in a container with a marble, which will serve as their useful object.

Tigers (1st Grade)

“Stories in Shapes”: The Cub Scouts will explore our new exhibition, The Doan Gang: Outlaws of the Revolution, which contains portraits of Revolutionary figures and other pieces of art. The Scouts will then discuss the art with an educator and create their own art using various shapes and materials.

Wolf (2nd Grade)

“Adventures in Coins”: The scouts will be guided through our new exhibition, The Doan Gang: Outlaws of the Revolution, which features coins from the 17th and 18th century. With an educator, the Scouts will learn and play “Coin Bingo” to become familiar with various coins. The Scouts will also get to have a hands on interaction with coins by creating rubbings to identify the different parts of coins.

Bear (3rd Grade)

“Critter Care”:  In this program, the Cub Scouts will learn what types of animals make good family pets and about how Henry Mercer loved having dogs as pets. With an educator, the Scouts will explore the Mercer Museum and find the paw-prints of Henry’s dog, Rollo, in the concrete. The Scouts will also learn about the care of these pets and how pets can help people.
